NBA All-Star Game community events - Orlando Sentinel
During NBA All-Star 2012, more than 3,000 NBA family members, partners and volunteers will join the league for more than 25 events and activities to celebrate its tradition and commitment to social responsibility with the NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan, highlighted by the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service on Friday.
THURSDAY
5:30 p.m. NBA/WNBA FIT All-Star Youth Celebration Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, Center Court NBA and WNBA players and legends and NBA Development League players will host more than 500 local youth for an evening of fitness instruction and basketball fun to teach the children the importance of physical activity and healthy living.6:45 p.m. NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, Center Court NWBA East and West All-Stars will take Center Court at Jam Session to compete in the 14th annual NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic.
7:45 p.m. NBA/NWBA Wheelchair Clinic Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, FIT Court NBA and WNBA players and Legends will join NWBA All-Stars to host a basketball clinic for local youth athletes with lower-limb impairments and their families.
FRIDAY
10 a.m. NBA Cares Hospital Visit Florida Hospital for Children, Walt Disney Pavilion, 601 East Rollins St. NBA and WNBA legends will spend time with pediatric patients and their families at the hospital.
12 p.m. - 4 p.m. NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service More than 1,500 NBA family members, including NBA All-Stars, partners, and volunteers, will mobilize for the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service at three locations throughout Central Florida to create and refurbish eight places to live, learn or play. * Play: In partnership with KaBOOM! and adidas, NBA Cares will build a 5,000 square foot playground for local children from the ground up. At Children's Safety Village of Central Florida- 910 Fairvilla Rd. * Learn: In partnership with HandsOn Orlando, HP and State Farm, NBA Cares will refurbish the interior and exterior of the Coalition for the Homeless, including the creation of a new computer lab, and package food for local families in support of Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign. At Coalition for the Homeless- 69 W. Central Blvd. * Live: In partnership with Rebuilding Together Orlando and Kia Motors, NBA Cares will revitalize five homes for families in the Tangelo Park neighborhood. At Tangelo Park- 4805 Steyr St.
SATURDAY
8 a.m. NBA All-Star FIT Run, Walk & Dribble Lake Eola, Downtown Orlando, Robinson St. The event will feature appearances by NBA and WNBA legends, live music, and fun for the whole family. Fans of all ages are welcome to register.
9:45 a.m. Make-A-Wish All-Star Meet and Greet Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session Four youngsters from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and their families will watch the All-Star practice and meet the NBA All-Stars.
12 p.m. NBA All-Star Dribble to Stop Diabetes Clinic Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, FIT Court NBA players and legends will host a health and fitness clinic for 75 local boys and girls in collaboration with the ADA and Sanofi US.
12:30 p.m. Coaches for Kids Meet & Greet Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida members will watch the All-Stars practice, followed by a special meet and greet with the Eastern or Western Conference NBA All-Star Coach.
12:30 p.m. NBA/WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish National Finals Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, Center Court Twelve boys and girls from around the country will compete in the "NBA/WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish National Finals presented by Pepperidge Farm Flavor Blasted Goldfish crackers".
SUNDAY
1 p.m. NBA Cares/ Special Olympics Unity Sports Basketball Game Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, Center Court Twelve Special Olympics All-Star athletes, NBA legends and WNBA players will play in the first-ever exhibition game. Current NBA players will participate as honorary coaches.
2:30 p.m. Special Olympics Clinic Orange County Convention Center, Jam Session, NBA FIT Court NBA Cares will host 70 local Special Olympic athletes for a basketball clinic.
